How score scanning works (and what scans best)

Optical music recognition (OMR) detects staves, clefs, notes and rhythms from the image and rebuilds the score digitally. Clean, well-lit, straight-on images of printed music work dramatically better than handwritten or skewed photos. We re-render the recognized score so you can eyeball the result against your original before trusting the MIDI — transparency beats surprises. Multi-page PDFs currently process the first page; split long scores for now.

Frequently asked questions

What input works best for sheet music scanning?
Printed (typeset) music, scanned or photographed straight-on at 200+ DPI in good light. Handwritten manuscripts and low-res phone photos significantly reduce recognition accuracy — that's true of all OMR, including $200 desktop packages.
The recognition missed some notes — what now?
Download the MusicXML, open it in MuseScore (free) and fix the misses — usually far faster than entering the whole score by hand. The re-rendered preview shows you exactly where to look.
Is it free?
Yes — 5 jobs a day with files up to 12 MB, no account. Larger files (up to 40 MB / 8 minutes of audio) use credits: $9 for 20. Failed jobs auto-refund.
What happens to my files?
Uploads are used only to run your job and stored briefly so you can download results. We don't share them or train on them. See our privacy policy.
