PDF scores are pictures — MusicXML is music

A PDF of sheet music is just an image: you can't transpose it, extract parts, or fix a wrong note. MusicXML is the interchange format every serious notation editor speaks. Our OMR engine reads your whole PDF — cover pages skipped, crooked photos auto-straightened — into MusicXML you can actually edit, with the recognized score re-rendered and playable right in the browser so you can spot recognition errors by ear. Spot a wrong note? Click it in the preview and fix it before you download. Typeset scores at good resolution convert best; handwritten manuscripts remain hard for all OMR tools.

People find this page looking for a sheet music scanner online, a way to convert sheet music to MIDI online free, or music OCR that actually outputs editable files — it's all the same job, and it starts with the upload box above. No app install, no account: scan sheet music to MusicXML right in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which programs open MusicXML?
MuseScore (free), Finale, Sibelius, Dorico, Notion, Capella and most other notation editors. MusicXML carries notes, rhythms, clefs and key signatures.
Does it handle multi-page PDFs?
Yes — whole scores are read in one job (about a minute per page), with a playable first-page preview while the rest processes. The free tier previews the first 2 pages; unlocking processes the full score.
Is it legal to upload sheet music I bought?
Yes. You're processing your own licensed copy for private practice — the same as photocopying it for your stand or playing it into a keyboard. Your files are processed privately, never shared, hosted publicly, or used for anything but your job, and they're cleaned up after a short period. What stays within your license is up to you — MelodyWiz never distributes your music.
Is it free?
Converting and previewing are free — 5 jobs a day, files up to 40 MB, no account. You can play the result in the browser, follow the highlighted score, and solo each part. Credits ($9 for 20, $19 for 50) unlock downloads: 10 credits for a piece's MusicXML + MIDI, 20 for the full Rehearsal Pack with per-part practice MP3s and slow mixes.
What happens to my files?
Uploads are used only to run your job and stored briefly so you can download results. We don't share them or train on them. See our privacy policy.
